YOU would be forgiven for thinking, Euro, what crisis, when the European Union is embarking on further capital waste. Remember Britain, not in the Euro Zone, was compelled to 'cough' up £13 billion, another departing gesture by Labour.

Many EU countries are having to borrow money to lend to the Euro 'fund'. However it seems that the EU have just sanctioned 749 iPads, one for each MEP despite the fact that a few months ago millions were spent on state of the art laptops. This is but small change to the £740 million being spent on a new building to house the European Central Bank, and given the almost compulsory overspend of EU projects this figure is likely to double.

Building work began last week on a structure that Architect Wolf Prix has said will be “an icon of the European Union because of its complex geometry”. In other words practicality will be sacrificed for ego.

Mats Persson, director of the Open Europe think tank, said: “It’s mind-boggling that the ECB is going ahead with such a grand project only weeks after taxpayers were asked to cough up €500 billion to save the eurozone.”

It seems that such hypocrisy is lost on this new Conservative administration, their MEP's simply nodded the project through.
