I HAVE read with interest Justin Tomlinson MP's letter regarding Haydon Wick and flooding. It is heartening to see so much effort being put into a single area of the borough.
Perhaps Mr Tomlinson as MP for North Swindon and hence South Marston, the single most affected area in the borough in the 2007 floods, would like to explain why the council he sat on, despite numerous meetings, an extensive flood alleviation plan by residents of the village, promises of funding, promises to carry out culvert works, promises to get land owners to take responsibility for their ditches, nothing has been done.
I am sure that the residents of South Marston are pleased that Haydon Wick has received so much help, but it's no consolation to us that many of us live in fear of flooding every time it rains.
I am tempted to say it is simply unfair that as the most at risk village we have been ignored, and continue to be so despite the proposition if several thousand houses on land that floods.
