Oh dear, poor old Councillor Tray has finally succumbed to that sad Swindon spectacle of being photographed (Adver April 5) with a bunch of his neighbours (and some of their kids for good measure) in front of their nice blue, pointless traffic signs, that the rest of the borough paid for, staunchly standing their ground. And what utter twaddle they speak. “Queensfield is a residential area”, says Jim Duncan, “resident’s are unable to get off their drives, there’s road rage, abuse, property and cars damaged, old ladies and kids aren’t safe”. Good grief! It sounds more like a road in Brixton than Swindon (sorry, I meant Queensfield).
Does Jim ever consider the residents of Hathaway Road, the rat run he and his neighbours use daily? No of course not. He says he thinks the traffic has increased over the years. Well done Jim, did you and Councillor Joe figure that one out for yourselves?
Well, Joe and Jim proudly, defiantly, photographed posing like Batman and Robin, what makes you think this fairly unattractive bit of road is different from any other? It’s a road in a town, that has houses on either side, where people live and where non-residents cars travel. Live with it, like we all have to or move.

Empty the bins
Swindon Council threatens us dog owners with large fines if we do not pick up our dog faeces when out walking our dogs.
It’s right that we do as the health hazards can be serious. Disposing of dog faeces in the dog bins that are placed at irregular intervals in public places is the responsibility of Swindon Council or those who are contracted to carry this out.
The company which took over the collections last year have been somewhat lacking in carrying out their contract. I live in the area of Cobden Green and the public green space between Ferndale Road and Great Western Way known as Rodbourne Recreation Ground, where there are only three bins.
These are supposed to be emptied, according to the person I spoke to at the council, once a week early on Monday or Tuesday mornings. This is not usually done this regular as the bins are often filled to overflowing.
I phoned the council on April 5 at 9am and was told that it would take four working days to action an emergency emptying of the tree bins in this area.
It is obvious to me Swindon Council or its contractors have no intention of carrying out their contractual obligations. If a child contracts a disease from these bins will the council and its contractors take responsibility for the suffering this would cause?
These particular bins in this area will not have been emptied for nearly three weeks by the time the Easter holidays are over.

Bad invitation
Barely a few weeks ago several Adver royal apologists took issue over my accusation that the queen receives ruthless dicators of her own free will, and indeed I maintained that her husband gleefully visits such. She was, they said ‘advised’ by her ministers. It was not up to her. Rot!
It now appears I have been vindicated by recent headline news. Apparently she has invited the ruler of Bahrain’s bloody regime to help her celebrate her upcoming Jubilee celebrations at Windsor Castle. The Queen’s response to criticism? An unbelievable “it’s very rude to leave anyone off the list”.
Had Hitler still been about then he too would have received an invitation one assumes.
