My wife and I have just spent the Easter weekend in our favourite resort, Weymouth. We decided to go into Poole on Saturday and opted to leave the car in Weymouth as it was difficult to find and retain a parking place at the hotel due to limited spaces. We went into Poole by bus, which was packed with senior citizens using their bus passes. Let the Government withdraw this benefit, at their peril.
When the bus arrived in Poole, the bus station was immaculately clean. Across from the bus stops was a long arcade of busy, thriving shops. The toilet cost 20p to use but they had a lady attendant on the door. They were spotless with no graffiti, no blue lights to stop drug addicts injecting, no drunks hanging around with beer cans frightening women and children by their presence and no litter strewn round the place.
May I suggest Swindon Council hire a large double decker bus to go from Swindon to Poole and put their highly paid executive staff and councillors on it?
Drive them into Poole. They would then see in detail how a bus station should look like and be organised.
