A much-improved Town moved a step closer to the dream of second spot in the League One table after a good win over Brentford last Saturday.
Today's game is one of the biggest in recent history and the support the team will get will be fantastic with over 2,000 Town fans travelling to London.
But unfortunately we have to rely on a very unpredictable Bristol Rovers to get either a draw or a win if we are going to take second away from Leeds.
We have all seen stranger things than that happen in football and there is always a chance, but even if Rovers don’t do us a favour, finishing in the play-offs has been a brilliant achievement.
Last Saturday Jon Douglas was presented with the player of the season award, and it is very much deserved. I think the best managers in the game can spot a bargain when they see one and Danny Wilson certainly did that at the beginning of the season, The overall quality of Douglas has been the missing piece of the puzzle at Town for years, somebody with a great eye for a pass and somebody who isn’t afraid to get stuck in, Simon Ferry alongside him has also been very important in midfield and it will be essential that these two are fit for all the potential play-off games.
Since arriving in 2008 the current board, headed up by Andrew Fitton, have done an excellent job and this week another huge sponsor was added to the two we already have, with Samsung to sponsor the third kit next season. That sort of high-profile backer we wouldn’t have even dreamed about a few years ago - it is such a relief after so many years of being in financial trouble to have people in charge who are taking the club forward on and off the pitch.
After years of disappointment and uncertainty, Town fans deserve a day like today and a win could take us back to the Championship a decade after we dropped out of the division.
With Scott Cuthbert, Ferry and Charlie Austin being rested last Saturday it will be good to get them back into the starting 11 and it was obvious how much we missed Cuthbert for the two goals we conceded.
No matter what happens today it has been an incredible season so far so get behind the boys and support our team all the way to the Championship today - or on May 29. Red Army!
