A month after the worst away performance seen under Paolo Di Canio at Preston, we got to experience the worst home display under the Italians reign on Tuesday night.
But before we look at Colchester Utd at home, Town put in a good performance away at Shrewsbury.
It wasn’t a straight to DVD classic but the team showed they were the much better side and deserved to win the game 1-0 thanks to a goal from Simon Ferry.
Back to a few of days ago where Town fans and some unfortunate neutrals sat through 94 minutes of pain at the County Ground.
Apart from his man of the match performance against Oxford on his debut, Federico Bessone has had a poor start to his career at Town.
And that continued on Tuesday night with some woeful defending, but in some fairness to him, Di Canio still insists on playing him out of position as a right back, with Joe Devera sitting on the bench.
I know Devera had a terrible last couple of games for the club, but at least he has experience in that position.
Also I don’t understand why Di Canio continues to play Navarro and Miller in central midfield together?
Simon Ferry is as important to the first eleven as Matt Ritchie, he needs to play every game, and not be rotated.
Nathan Thompson picking up a slight injury has been a big miss to the first team, especially Matt Ritchie.
Ritchie desperately needs someone to link up with on the right hand side, and Bessone was struggling to defend let alone help going forward, a situation that left him struggling for most of the night.
Looking forward to this Saturday, where Town have to get back to winning ways quickly against bottom side Bury at Gigg Lane.
Just like Colchester, Bury have appointed a new manager recently, so the home team will put in a better performance to impress the new boss Kevin Blackwell.
Hopefully Nathan Thompson and Gary Roberts will be fit enough to start, and Paolo might give a chance to forgotten man John Bostock.
Since his arrival this season, he seems to be invisible on the bench and the dressing room.
Last season he put in some good performances and I think he deserves the chance to show Town fans what he can offer the first team this Saturday.
Of course, there might be something going on behind the scenes, but I can only go by what the club makes public.
I doubt we will see Paul Benson starting after his average display on Tuesday, and we might see the return of Adam Rooney back to the first team alongside Andy Williams.
With Bury being bottom I’m hopeful we can at least come away with a noble point, but if we play to our full potential we would beat any in this division, comfortably.
Hopefully that particular Town side will show up, and we can bring the points home to Wiltshire and return to the playoff places.
