A loyal customer of a town centre cafe is sad to see it close and hopes it may return in some form.
The Octagon shut last month and is due to be demolished as part of the Fleming Way improvement scheme.
The business has been part of the area for around 40 years but could not continue due to financial difficulties.
Adver reader Robert Murray, of Ridge Nether Moor in Liden, wrote a letter to pay tribute to the hardworking staff and management that provided a top quality service over the years.
He said: "I am deeply grieved over the closure and proposed demolition of the Octagon bus station cafe.
"With its unique design, friendly service, and good food, it has served as a most splendid catering establishment and an attractive town centre landmark.
"The original owner, Mr Dennis Offer, with his first class baking skills, made it a byword for fine cuisine.
"His successors Jon and Heidi proved very cable proprietors, continuing the great baking tradition.
"They made a good go of it and it is so sad that they felt unable to continue running it after hope was expressed that they could keep it going until the demolition date due
"The former chef - a lovely cook and bloke - said its decline began when the bus station car park was demolished in advance of the redevelopments, as motorists would park and then use the cafe before and after shopping.
"A neighbour informs me that the new bus station won't include a cafe, which seems odd.
"I would appeal again to Swindon Borough Council to reconsider the plan and retain the Octagon in the new facility, or permit it to be revised, as I'm sure it would be beneficial to bus users.
"After all, they are supposed to be sympathetic to people's wishes.
"Meanwhile, couldn't it be reopened temporarily, like Christmas shops, perhaps by a charity, serving beverages and home catering?
"Finally, I'd like to say a very big thank you to Mr Offer and to Jan and Heidi for the excellent catering service that they have provided between them."
